Welcome
The Department has a unix network which is available to students and faculty. The UNO Library has nearly one million volumes, and good journal and ejournal holdings. Students participate in seminars, research and teaching. Our students and faculty come from many parts of the world, with a wide variety of races, religions, and countries represented. Admission to the graduate program is by the Department and the College of Sciences. Undergraduate preparation should include abstract algebra and advanced calculus, but these may also be taken here. The UNO Department of Mathematics currently offers TA positions to students who normally grade, teach in math labs or lower level courses and assist in the computer lab. There is a nine month's stipend plus the chance of financial assistance for summer school. Tuition is waived for students with teaching assistantships. New Orleans is one of the most interesting cities in the world with a unique mix of cultures. World class food, music, and festivals abound. Our program provides an excellent introduction to the careers mentioned above, and we welcome your interest in the UNO Department or Mathematics. Carroll Blakemore Chairman |
